The 15-Second Save: A Kingston Ring Recovery Service Success Story – (Car Keys Found In The Snow)

The winter of 2026 isn’t playing around. With over 30cm of snow falling in Kingston, Ontario, within a single 15-hour window, the city was buried. For Harmeet, the snow wasn’t just a nuisance—it had swallowed his car keys, and the clock was ticking.

The Referral

At 10:00 AM, I received a call from Stephane Coutu. Stephane is a member of The Ring Finders, and we frequently refer clients to one another to ensure the fastest possible response. Since the situation was urgent and the keys were for a vehicle, we needed to move before the next wave of snow buried them deeper.

By 10:15 AM, I had Harmeet on the line, and we coordinated a 3:30 PM search. I reached out to my recovery partner, Ryan Pugh, to ensure we had two sets of eyes (and detectors) on the scene.

The “Snow Toss” Method

When Ryan and I arrived at 3:30 PM, Harmeet explained that he’d already spent two and a half hours trying to find them himself. His strategy was unique: he’d been taking shovelfuls of snow and tossing them into the air, hoping to spot the keys mid-flight before they landed in the massive snow bank beside his driveway.

As any recovery expert knows, “moving the target” usually makes the job harder. But we were ready for the challenge.

Record-Breaking Results

As we approached the snowbank, I did a preliminary sweep with my detector just to get a feel for the ground.

I hadn’t even finished my first walk-through when the detector screamed.

“I think the keys are right here,” I told Ryan.

Ryan handed me our Pull Tab Gear sand scoop (our secret weapon for snow jobs lately).

  • First scoop: Cold powder.
  • Second scoop: The keys!

From the moment I turned on the machine to the moment the keys were in Harmeet’s hand, less than 15 seconds had passed. It was officially the fastest recovery in the history of The Kingston Ring Recovery Service.

Harmeet was ecstatic to have his vehicle back in action, and Ryan and I were thrilled to add another successful 2026 recovery to the books.

A huge shoutout to Stephane for the referral—local expertise and a strong network saved the day!
